Associate Barcodes and QR Codes to Inventory Items

When you have itemized inventory, you may want to use barcodes and QR codes as a way to manage rental inventory items. ServiceCore allows you to manage inventory with barcodes and QR codes using the web app along with the mobile app.

In this article, you'll learn how to associate barcodes and QR codes to inventory items.

Before You Start

Here are some things to know before you begin this process:

  • You will need to Create an Itemized Inventory Product and Add Inventory Items before associating and scanning barcodes or QR codes
  • You will also need to download and install the ServiceCore mobile app, which will allow you to scan barcodes and QR codes
  • For Android users, download on Google Play
  • For Apple users, download on the App Store
  • You will need Admin or Owner level permission to add itemized inventory using the wep app
  • Any permission level can scan barcodes and QR codes using the mobile app
  • Please make sure you are have cellular data or WiFi coverage before attempting to scan barcodes and QR codes
  • The device you use to scan barcodes and QR codes must have a functioning camera
  • If you will be scanning in low light conditions, please make sure your device has a flash (or bring along a flashlight to light up the barcode)
  • And, last but not least, you will need barcodes and QR codes on each unit that you want to scan and associate with inventory items
  • The mobile app accepts barcodes and QR codes of up to 128 characters in length

Associate Barcodes and QR Codes to Inventory Items

To associate barcodes and QR codes to inventory items, follow these steps:

  1. Launch the ServiceCore mobile app on your phone or tablet
  2. Log in with your Email address and Password
  3. If you would like to use your Touch ID / Face ID for future times you login, tap Yes on the alert message that appears. If not, tap No.
  4. Wait while the app builds your profile
  5. In the header, tap on the menu icon (three stacked lines, aka the hamburger icon) in the upper left corner of the screen
  6. In the menu that appears, tap Inventory

  7. Scroll up or down until you locate the Product that contains the itemized inventory you want to associate with barcodes or QR codes
  8. Tap on the Product name
  9. On the next screen, locate the serialized item that you want to associate with a barcode or QR code, or use the search box to search by serial number
  10. Tap on the green Barcode icon
  11. In the screen that appears, center your barcode or QR code in the window and wait for the App to scan the barcode or QR code
  12. If your volume is turned on, you will hear a beep when the scan is successful
  13. If you need more light, tap the lightbulb icon to turn on the flash on your device
  14. You will return to the previous inventory list and now you will see a barcode or QR code number for the item you just scanned
  15. Repeat the steps above until you have scanned all items for this product
  16. To return to the product list, tap on the blue arrow in the upper left corner of the screen

Re-scan An Item

If you scanned the wrong barcode or QR code for an item in step 14 above:

  1. Tap on the itemized item to view the Item details page
  2. Tap the re-scan icon

  3. Scan the correct barcode or QR code for this item

These steps also apply if a barcode or QR code ever becomes damaged or goes missing. You can update barcodes or QR codes at any time.

After You Associate Barcodes and QR Codes to Inventory Items

After scanning barcodes or QR codes and associating them to inventory items, you may want to do the following:
