Signing in to ServiceCore Mobile can be as quick as a fingerprint or a face scan. There’s no password to remember at 6:00am and no typing with gloves on.
Fingerprint and face login work best on a phone or tablet that belongs to one person. If a device gets passed between drivers, everyone signs in with their own email and password. That keeps the right name on every job.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- To see if you have access to this feature in ServiceCore, please check out this article on user permission levels.
- Fingerprint and face login are only available in ServiceCore Mobile App. If you still need to download the app to your device, we suggest reviewing this article.
- Your device needs a fingerprint reader or face unlock set up in its own settings. This works on iPhone and Android. If a phone has no screen lock, there is nothing for the app to use.
- Your email and password always work, even after you set up fingerprint or face login.
Choose a Setup Option at First Sign-In
The first time someone signs in on a device, ServiceCore Mobile asks one short question. The answer sets the device up for how it will be used.
After you enter your email and password for the first time, you’ll see 3 options:
- Set up Fingerprint/FaceID: Best for a phone or tablet that belongs to one person. Every sign-in after that is a quick fingerprint or face scan, depending on what the device supports.
- Not now: Signs you in as usual and skips the question. You can turn it on later in Settings.
- This device is shared: Tells the app that several people use the device. Fingerprint and face login stay off, and everyone signs in with their own email and password.
You’ll only see this prompt once, right after the first successful sign-in on a device.
Which option you choose depends on who uses the device. If one person uses it, choose Set up Fingerprint/FaceID. If more than one person uses it, choose This device is shared.
Change the Shared Device Setting
Your first answer isn’t permanent. You can change the setting any time the way your crew uses a device changes. For example, a tablet that stayed in one truck all summer and now moves between three drivers should be switched to shared.
To change the setting, follow these steps:
- Tap Settings in the bottom menu.
- Find “Is this device being shared?” near the top of the screen.
- Tap the switch to turn it on or off.
Here’s what each position means:
- Switched Off: The device belongs to one person. Fingerprint or face login is available.
- Switched On: The device is shared. Everyone signs in with their own email and password.
What Happens When a Second Person Signs In
ServiceCore Mobile watches for a second person on the same device so you don’t have to. As soon as a second account signs in, the device switches to shared and the setting locks.
You’ll see a padlock next to “Is this device being shared?” and the message “More than one person has signed in on this device.”
From then on, fingerprint and face login are not available on that device, and everyone signs in with their own email and password. If the device now belongs to one person again, follow the clean start steps below.
Why Shared Devices Use Email and Password
This comes down to how phones and tablets are built. When a device checks a fingerprint or a face, it only answers one question: is this someone the device trusts? It never says which person.
A tablet with five fingerprints saved treats all five the same, and the app can’t tell them apart. An iPhone or iPad set up with Face ID holds one person’s face and won’t add a second.
On a shared tablet, anyone enrolled could open another driver’s account, pick up their route, and complete work under their name. Timesheets, job photos, and signatures would all show the wrong person.
Using fingerprint and face login only on single-owner devices keeps one device, one person, and the right name on every job.
Give a Device a Clean Start
Sometimes a shared device becomes one person’s. A driver might get their own phone, or a tablet might come back from a yard where three people used it. A clean start lets the new owner set up fingerprint or face login for themselves, and it takes about a minute.
Start with the Sync Queue. It holds anything a driver finished while the device was offline, so give that work time to upload before you do anything else.
To give a device a clean start, follow these steps:
- Tap “Sync Queue” in the bottom menu.
- Wait until the Sync Queue is empty.
- Reset the app for your device type:
- On an iPhone or iPad, delete the ServiceCore Mobile app. Then install it again from the App Store.
- On an Android device, clear the app’s storage in your device settings. You can also delete the app and install it again from Google Play.
- Open ServiceCore Mobile and sign in again.
You’ll now see the setup prompt again, and the person who owns the device can set up a fingerprint or face login for themselves.
Please Note: A clean start only clears what is stored on that one device. Accounts, schedules, and completed work all live in ServiceCore and stay exactly where they are.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
These FAQs address common questions and quick clarifications to help you use this feature with confidence.
Does ServiceCore see or store anyone’s fingerprint?
No. The fingerprint or face never leaves the device and never reaches ServiceCore. The device does the checking and tells the app yes or no.
Can I still use my password after setting up fingerprint login?
Yes, always. Fingerprint and face login is a shortcut. Your email and password always work.
I tapped the wrong button by mistake. Can I undo it?
Yes, as long as yours is the only account that has signed in on that device. Tap Settings and move the “Is this device being shared?” switch. If a second person has already signed in, follow the clean start steps above.
What if a driver gets a new phone?
Sign in with your email and password on the new phone and set up fingerprint login there. Nothing needs to be undone on the old phone.
We have four drivers and two tablets. What should we do?
Turn on the “Is this device being shared?” switch for both tablets. Everyone signs in with their own login, and every job stays credited to the right person.
