Add Inventory Categories

Inventory Categories help you organize products within ServiceCore. They make it easier to group similar products, filter inventory lists, and keep your system structured as your inventory grows.

For example, you might create categories such as Portable Toilets, Luxury Restroom Trailers, and Roll-Off Dumpsters.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

• Inventory Category names must be unique.
• Inventory Categories are optional but recommended if you manage multiple product types.
• Categories must be created before they can be assigned to products.
• Categories can include both itemized and non-itemized products.
• To see if you have access to view, edit, or delete inventory categories, please review this article on user permission levels.

Add an Inventory Category

To add an inventory category, follow these steps:

1. Click your name in the top right corner.
2. Select “Settings.”
3. Click “Inventory.”
4. Select “Categories.”

5. Click the “Add Category” button.

   
   
    

6. Enter a unique Category Name. (e.g. Portable Toilets, Luxury Trailers, Roll-Off Dumpsters etc.) 

7.  Click “Add Category.”

   
   

Once saved, the new category will appear in your list of Inventory Categories.

Manage Inventory Categories

Once a category has been created, you can edit or delete it.

1. Click the down arrow in line with an inventory category.
2. Select “Edit Category” or “Delete Category.”

Assign an Inventory Category to a Product

After creating a category, you can assign it to a product:

1. Click your name in the top-right corner.
2. Select “Settings.”
3. Click “Inventory.”

4. Select “Products.”

   
   
    

5. Click the down arrow in line with a product.

6. Select “Edit Product.”

   
   

7. Choose the appropriate Category.

8. Click “Save.”

   
   

Use Categories to Filter Inventory

Once products are assigned to categories, you can use categories to quickly filter and find items in your inventory.

You can use the “Filter by” menu to select an inventory Category when in your Products list in Settings.

You can also use the “Filter by” menu to narrow results when creating a rental or adding an additional job to a rental.
