Every Satellite Sense device links to one inventory item, the specific unit with its own serial number that the sensor gets installed in. Once you make that connection, ServiceCore starts pulling in tank level, usage, temperature, and location data for that item automatically.
You'll do this once per unit, when a Satellite device is first installed or if you ever move a device to a different unit.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- To see if you have access to this feature in ServiceCore, please check out this article on user permission levels.
- Satellite Sense is only available to customers who have the feature turned on for their account. If you don't see Satellite options in your account, reach out to your ServiceCore contact.
- Satellite devices can only be associated with itemized inventory units with their own unique serial number. Bulk or non-serialized products aren't supported.
- Satellite Sense hardware is provided and supported by Satellite Industries, a separate company from ServiceCore. ServiceCore surfaces the data the devices send, it doesn't manage the hardware itself.
- Satellite Sense Device IDs are added to your account by ServiceCore ahead of time. If a device you're expecting isn't showing up as an option, reach out to ServiceCore Support.
View Your Inventory Items
There are 2 places in your ServiceCore account where you can view your inventory items:
-
Click your name in the top right corner, select "Settings," click "Inventory," then click "Items."
-
Open "Rentals" in the top menu, select "Inventory," then click "Items."
TIP: When viewing your Items list, use the Filter and select "Satellite Sense Enabled” to show all your inventory that already has a device connected.
Associate a Device to an Item
To associate a Satellite device to an item, follow the instructions below:
- On the Items tab, click the down arrow for an item.
- Select “Edit Item” in the drop-down menu.
- Click into the "Satellite Device ID" field.
-
Select the correct device id from the drop-down.
Please Note: Satellite Sense Device IDs are loaded onto your account by ServiceCore. If the device you're looking for isn't in the list, reach out to your ServiceCore contact instead of trying to add it yourself.
- Click into the "Unit Type" field.
-
Select or confirm the correct type for this item.
Please Note: ServiceCore uses the tank dimensions tied to the selected Unit Type to calculate volume from each read. Choosing the wrong Unit Type gives you inaccurate volume readings, even if the device itself is reporting correctly.
-
Click "Save."
You'll now see a Satellite panel on the item's detail page with the device's battery status and read history, and the item shows the Satellite logo in your Items list going forward.
Please Note: A newly associated device should show its first read within 8 hours. If it's been longer than that with no reading, reach out to Support.
Item’s Detail Page with Satellite Sense
Once a device is associated with an item, the item's detail page updates to show everything Satellite Sense is tracking for that unit.
In addition to standard information on your item’s details page, you also see additional insights provided by your Satellite Sense device:
- 5 Overview Cards at the Top: Current Volume, Estimated Uses Since Last Service, Last Rental Service, Next Rental Service, and Current Customer.
- Volume & Uses Chart: Line displaying volume over time and bars showing uses per day. Click on "2W," "1M," or "2M" to change the date range.
- Temperature: Gauge showing the current reading along with the 7 day low and high.
- Satellite Panel: Displays device number, battery status, and previous and most recent read timestamps.
-
Location: Map showing the unit's pin and the rental's pin, plus GPS coordinates and how far the unit is from its original rental location.
