Add and Manage Customer/Site Types

Not every customer or location you service is the same. By adding Customer/Site Types, you can classify each customer and location with the most accurate designation. This helps you stay organized and makes reporting more meaningful.

Common Customer/Site Types include Oil & Gas, Agricultural, Restaurant, Event, Construction, and Municipal, but you can create any types that fit your business.

Before You Start

Here are a few things to know before you continue:

  • To see if you have access to this feature in ServiceCore, please check out this article on user permission levels.
  • You will need Manager, Admin, or Owner level permission to deactivate and delete a customer or site type.
  • Every customer and site type must have a unique name.
  • ServiceCore provides three default types: Commercial, Government, and Residential.

Add a Customer/Site Type

Creating custom types allows you to tailor ServiceCore to your business needs. Once added, these types can be used to group customers and sites for easier filtering and better reporting.

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Click the “Custom Fields.”
  3. Select the “Customer/Site Types.”

  1. Click the “Add Type.”

  1. In the menu that appears, enter a unique Type Name.
  2. Click “Add Customer/Site Type” to save.

Once saved, the new type will appear in your list of Customer and Site Types.

Edit Customer and Site Types

If a customer or site type needs to be updated, like correcting a name, you can edit it in your settings.

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Click “Custom Fields.”
  3. Select “Customer/Site Types.”
  4. Click “Edit Type” next to the type you want to update.

  1. Update the Type Name as needed.
  2. Click “Save.”

Deactivate or Delete Customer/Site Types

When certain types are no longer relevant to your business, you can deactivate or delete them. Deactivation is the good option if you might need the type again later, while deleting a type removes it permanently.

  1. Go to “Settings.”
  2. Click the “Custom Fields.”
  3. Select the “Customer/Site Types.”
  4. Click the drop-down arrow for the type you want to deactivate or delete.
  5. Select “Deactivate Type.”

  1. Click “Confirm Deactivation” in the pop-up that appears.

The type will now be deactivated. If you would like to permanently delete the type, there are a few more steps.

  1. Click “Filter.”
  2. Check the box next to Show inactive types.

  1. Click the drop-down arrow for the deactivate type you want to delete.
  2.  Select “Delete Type.”

  1.  Click “Confirm Delete” in the pop-up that appears to permanently delete the type.

Use Customer/Site Types

After you’ve created your types, it’s time to start using them! When adding or editing customers and sites, you can select ServiceCore’s default types or a custom one you have created.

For customers, you can select a type from the Customer Type drop-down menu located in the Additional Information when creating or editing a customer.

For sites, you can select a type from the Type drop-down menu located in Basic Information when creating or editing a site.
