Many reports in ServiceCore let you filter the data by date, so you only see the information you need for a specific time period. You'll find this filter under different names depending on the report, like "Issued At," "Scheduled At," "Created At," "Display Date Range," or "As Of Date," but it works one of two ways no matter what it's called.
Some reports let you set a date range to pull data from a stretch of time. Others show you a snapshot of a specific moment. Knowing which type you're working with helps you get the results you're looking for faster.
Before You Start
Here are a few things to know before you continue:
- To see if you have access to this feature in ServiceCore, please check out this article on user permission levels.
- The date filter's label changes from report to report, but the two filter types below work the same way everywhere you find them.
- Not every report includes a date filter. Check the top or side of your report to see what filters are available.
Date Range Filters
Date range filters pull data from a stretch of time instead of a single moment. You'll find this type on reports like the Monthly AR Balance report's "Display Date Range" filter.
Click on the date filter field to open it, then choose how you want to pull your data. Your options fall into five groups:
Single Date
Choose "On," "Before," or "After" to filter around one date. "On" pulls data from that exact date. "Before" pulls everything up to and including that date, defaulting to 11:59:59pm. "After" pulls everything starting after that date, defaulting to 12:00:00am. Each of these opens a calendar and one time field.
Pick a Date Range
Choose "Between" to set a fixed start and end date yourself. This opens a calendar with a time field for both the start and end of your range.
Count Back or Forward from Today
Choose "Last" or "Next" to pull data from a set number of periods before or after now, like the last 2 days or the next 3 weeks. Enter a number, then pick a time unit: Years, Quarters, Months, Weeks starting Sunday, Weeks starting Monday, Days, Hours, or Minutes. Check the "Include today" box if you want today counted as part of your range.
TIP: Say you want to see how your AR balance changed over the last 30 days. Click on the date filter, select "Last," enter "30," and select "Days." Your report now shows only the last 30 days of activity.
Current Period
Choose "Current" to pull data from the period you're already in, like the current day, week, or month. Since you're not counting back or forward, you only need to pick a time unit, no number required.
Custom Range
Choose "Custom" for more control than the other options give you. You can set your start date and end date independently, and each one can be "Fixed" (an exact date you pick) or "Relative" (a number of periods before or after now, similar to Last and Next). Use this when your date range doesn't fit neatly into one of the other options.
As Of Date Filters
As of date filters show you a snapshot of your data as it stood at one specific moment, rather than data collected over a range. You'll find this type of filter on reports like the AR Aging Report's "As Of Date" filter, which shows unpaid balances as they stood on the date and time you choose.
Click on the date filter field to open it, then choose how you want to set your snapshot.
Your options fall into two groups:
Specific Date
Choose "On" to see your data as it stood on one exact date. This opens a calendar and a time field, so you can narrow down to a specific moment if you need to.
Count Back or Forward from Today
Choose "Now minus" or "Now plus" to see your data as it stood a set amount of time before or after right now. The calendar disappears, and you'll enter a number, then pick a time unit: Years, Quarters, Months, Weeks starting Sunday, Weeks starting Monday, Days, Hours, or Minutes, the same way "Last" and "Next" work in the Date Range Filters section above.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
These FAQs address common questions and quick clarifications to help you use this feature with confidence.
Why do some reports use a date range and others use an as of date?
It depends on what the report is measuring. Reports that track activity over time, like sales or job completions, use a date range so you can see everything that happened during that stretch. Reports that track a balance or status, like unpaid amounts, use an as of date so you can see exactly where things stood at one moment, since a balance is always changing.
What's the difference between "Custom" and the other date range options?
The other options cover the most common cases in one or two clicks. "Custom" is there for the times your date range doesn't fit those patterns, like a start date that's fixed but an end date that moves with today. Select "Custom" only when the simpler options don't get you what you need.
