In this article, we'll guide you through recent enhancements to the Quickbooks Online Sync Logs. With the updated Quickbooks Online Sync Logs, you now have the power to:
- Enhanced Entity Insight: Now, you can better understand the relationship between your entities
- Root Cause Identification: Identify the root cause of sync issues quickly
- Self-Service Resolution: Rectify sync issues on your own, without needing to contact support
- Easy Re-Syncing: Trigger a re-sync to Quickbooks once the issue is resolved
- Automated Re-Syncing: Entities that previously failed to sync due to a higher-level entity can now be automatically re-synced once the primary issue is resolved
Before you Begin
Throughout this article, we'll refer to "entities" which are items that sync between ServiceCore and Quickbooks Online. Here's a list of entities that sync between your ServiceCore and Quickbooks Online accounts:
- Account
- TaxAgency
- TaxCode (Note: TaxRate is not listed here as they are exported as part of TaxCode export)
- Term
- LineItemCategory
- ServiceCategory
- Service
- Customer
- Site
- Refund
- Invoice
- Credit Memo
- Payment
We'll also discuss the hierarchical relationship between entities. For instance, if an Invoice fails to sync, related Credit Memos and Payments will also fail. Once you resolve the Invoice sync issue and trigger a successful re-sync, the associated Credit Memos and Payments should sync successfully too.
Sync Status Updates
Previously, only entities that failed to sync were displayed in the Quickbooks Sync Logs. With the update, the entities and their sync status are now visible. Entities can have one of three statuses:
- Critical: The entity has failed to sync
- Warning: The entity failed to sync due to a higher-level entity failure
- Success: The entity has successfully synced

Entities with Critical Sync Status
When an entity in the sync log is labeled as "Critical," it indicates an issue preventing it from syncing.
To identify the root cause of the issue
Review the Message: Check the Message column in the table for specific details on why the entity failed to sync.
Access Additional Information: Click the Information icon in the Actions column for further insight.
This action opens the Critical error modal, which displays:
- The number of associated warnings, indicating affected entities
- The entity with Critical status
- Any related entities with Warning status
- A link to a knowledge base article, where you can find a glossary of the most common sync issues and directions on how to fix them
To trigger a resync to Quickbooks Online once you have resolved the issue
Once you've identified and resolved the sync issue, you can trigger a re-sync of the affected entity by selecting the sync icon from either the Actions column in the sync log, the Critical Error modal, or the Related Entities modal. Upon triggering the re-sync, a toast notification will confirm the outcome: successful sync or unsuccessful attempt.
Entities with Warning Sync Status
When an entity in the sync log is labeled as "Warning," it indicates that the entity failed to sync due to a higher-level entity failure.
To identify the root cause of the issue
Review the Message: Check the Message column in the table for specific details on why the entity failed to sync.
Access Additional Information: Click the related entities icon in the Actions column to open the Related Entities modal for further insight.
This action opens the Related Entities modal, which displays:
- The hierarchical relationship between the entity with the "Warning" status and the high-leven entity with the "Critical" status that is causing it to not sync.
To trigger a re-sync on the entity with the "Warning" status, follow the steps outlined under "Entities with Critical Sync Status." Successfully syncing the entity with the "Critical" status will automatically trigger a re-sync for the entity with the "Warning" status.
